What You'll Do

As the Director of Learner Experience (LX) Design, you will work with key stakeholders to lead the vision in innovative design, development, and production of innovative online courses in line with iDesign values, quality, and partner goals. You will collaborate with VPs of LX, C-Suite, directors, project managers, shared services coordinators, and institutional administrators. You will hire, coach, and manage iDesign contractors such as instructional designers (learning architects) and lead instructional designers (lead learning architects). You will be integral to the development and continuation of a positive and healthy iDesign culture, inside and out. You may also work on company-wide special projects as needed to facilitate new and ongoing business operations.

The successful candidate will work remotely as a full-time employee.

You will:

Project Leadership:

  • Establish the vision and lead the development of innovative online programs, courses, and learning products, ensuring they align with iDesign's values, quality standards, and partner goals.
  • Champion inclusive, accessible, learner-centric design principles to prioritize engagement and impact.
  • Guide your team through design challenges, set priorities, and continuously improve the quality of offerings.
  • Evaluate project success, identify areas for improvement, and communicate results effectively.
  • Collaborate with project managers to oversee program development and exploratory initiatives.

Team Leadership:

  • Cultivate a collaborative and innovative environment where your team thrives and grows.
  • Provide targeted coaching, feedback, and resources to enable individual and team development.
  • Work with leadership to address performance gaps and ensure everyone is aligned with company goals.
  • Collaborate with project managers to establish clear expectations and ensure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities.
  • Foster open communication and collaboration across the team, aligning individual goals with company objectives.

Strategic Leadership:

  • Partner with PMO and company VPs to share insights and recommend process improvements.
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts, upholding quality and consistency across all projects.
  • Actively participate and contribute to company-wide initiatives and directives.

What You Need to Get the Job Done

Instructional Design Expertise:

  • Advanced degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology Leadership, or related field.
  • Proven experience in online learning, instructional technology, and adult learning theories.
  • A track record of creating engaging learning experiences for diverse audiences in higher education.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading design teams and driving innovation in learning programs.

Strong Project Leadership:

  • A knack for envisioning new learning designs even with limited direction.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading teams through design challenges, prioritizing needs, and aligning with stakeholder requirements.
  • The ability to clearly communicate your vision and its strategic value to key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to evaluate project success and deliverables against key objectives.

Team Development and Management:

  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and fostering team growth, with a focus on continuous improvement and professional development.

Strategic Communicator:

  • Proven ability to communicate complex information persuasively across diverse audiences.
  • The ability to synthesize feedback and translate it into actionable recommendations.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to navigate complex organizational structures.
  • A talent for fostering collaboration across departments and teams, ensuring seamless integration for successful project outcomes.
